Don Joanquin Lodge | Known as "the river tiger", the dorado (salminus maxillosus) is the most exciting native game fish of South America. |
![]() | Situated in Corrientes Province in the northeast of Argentina, Esquina offers a tropical weather throughout the 8 months of the fishing season. The season starts in September and runs through May. Corrientes River and the huge delta covering over 50 km with hundreds of channels, streams, brook and marshlands are home to a great flora and fauna, making the place perfect for dorado fly fishing. Depending on the condition of the river and its brooks and channels, you may cast on sight with floating lines and surface flies. Fast sinking lines are a good choice to fish the runs and riffles where the larger dorados hide. You may also fly fish for chafalote, sometimes reaching one metre long, palometa or piranha, tararira and cabeza amarga. The river shows white sandy shores along some sections which allow wading for dorados. Known as "the river tiger", the dorado (salminus maxillosus) is the most exciting native game fish of South America. Even though it is found all year round, the best time of the year runs from September through May. The average size in the area ranges from 4.5 to 17 pounds; however, larger fish are caught every year. |

Franklin Russell | Second-Generation Professional Bonefish Guide on North Andros Island, Bahamas. |
![]() | Franklin Russell: Franklin is a second-generation Bonefish Flyfishing Guide on North Andros Island. Franklin fished with and learnt from his father who was a pioneer in the area. Franklin lives in a house on the Lowe Sound waterfront in the fishing village that faces the many cays just offshore. He's lived here all of his life and he knows these waters (and Bonefish) like the back of his hand. Andros Island, at over 100 miles long, is by far the largest island in the Bahamas. Yet it boasts a population of only 8,000. Just offshore from North Andros Island are the numerous cays and flats that are world renowned for Bonefishing. Bonefish schools are abundant in the area and can be taken on fly fishing gear or light spinning tackle. It's just a short trip offshore from the boat ramp in Lowe Sound to arguably the best Bonefishing you will ever find. |
